Therapy for Depression in Manchester.

Over the years I’ve heard many men say that they had no idea how painful depression could be.  Unless you have experienced depression for yourself, you have no idea what it is like.  Once you have had depression, you are much more sympathetic to others who are going through it.

As a therapist, I have worked with clients as a counsellor, psychotherapist and cognitive behavioural therapist to help them through depression.  Each has their own advantage.

Counselling for Depression.

Sometimes depression is your mind and your body’s way of saying that the way you are living your life is no longer meeting your needs.  Something has to change.  Counselling is a great way to work out what that ‘something’ is, and to support you through the change.

Psychotherapy for Depression.

Psychotherapy is a long term commitment to transform your life.  For people who have experienced long term chronic depression, this often is an appropriate choice to work through the causes of their depression, and make the changes they need to have a fulfilled and happy life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Depression.

Sometimes depression is best tackled directly and in a practical way.  This is especially true if your depression started for no reason, or the reason has passed but the depression remained.  At the core of CBT for depression is to work on the endless negative thinking that characterises depression, and work to get you moving again, by reengaging with rewarding and fun activities.

Everybody, of course, is unique, and most people require a mix of approaches to help them through depression.  As a therapist I integrate a number of approaches to help you make the changes you need as quickly and as efficiently as possible.  You might also be interested to know I have suffered from depression myself.  I know what depression is like ‘from the inside’, and this is invaluable because I really do know how hopeless things can seem.  I also know there is hope … that things don’t always need to be like this forever.

Talking therapy is part of the mix to help you beat depression.  I also help clients negotiate medical treatments for depression, if they are appropriate, and am also interested in effective natural and nutritional approaches to treating depression including meditation.
