A phobia is an intense irrational fear of something. The person knows it is irrational at some level. Surprisingly the most disabling aspect of a phobia is not the anxiety itself, but it is how people organise their lives to avoid the thing they are scared of. Some people can go to extreme lengths to avoid spiders, spending a fortune on sprays and traps, etc., and making sure their family and friends follow certain protocols for reducing the chance of a spider entering the house!
Some common phobias are:-
Leaving the house.
The dentist.
Blood tests.
Small fury animals.
Snakes.
Dogs.
Cats.
Flying,
And, of course, spiders.
Phobias can be very disabling, but with a little courage, can be overcome quickly and safely.
